Meet our Coaches

Here is a little information about the team's favorite people! Our coaches are what make our sport possible at UNT. These coaches are with us through thick and thin and EVERY competition. Our success is fueled by their generosity and commitment to the team so spend some time getting to know our coaches!

Courtney Burggren
Western Coach

Courtney Burggren began her showing career in Denton, TX while in elementary school. She began
showing her mare, Ms. Burning Touch, as a yearling in 4H and open shows, focusing on All Around
Performance classes while being active in high school sports and dance. After high school, she attended
the University of Oklahoma where she founded, ran, and showed as a student- athlete on the University
of Oklahoma Equestrian Team and while pursuing a concentration degree in Archaeology.

Upon graduating in 2012, she returned to Denton where she began her riding program, Golden Touch
Stables, teaching lessons, training horses, and showing competitively in All Around Performance
Western and English, Ranch classes, and Reining as well as coaching an Interscholastic Equestrian
Association middle school and high school show team. In 2012, Courtney helped UNT students found
the University of North Texas Equestrian Team and stepped into the role of Head Coach and Western
Coach. She has taught many students of all experience levels over the years as well as riding as an
alumni in the IHSA Alumni classes. She has qualified for over 15 different IHSA Regional, Semifinals, and
Zones shows in Horsemanship, Equitation, and Ranch Riding as well as competing at two IHSA National
Championship shows. She has also shown at the APHA World show, and has had clients compete and
win at APHA World, Color Breed Congress, and IEA Nationals.

Kelly Knigge
English Coach

Kelly has been teaching riding lessons and training horses since 2006, but her passion for horses developed at the very young age of 4. Kelly has a diverse background, having ridden a variety of horses and developing young riders in hunter/jumper, pony divisions within NTHJC and DHJC. She believes in laying a strong and technically correct foundation that creates confidence and happiness in both horses and riders.
